Controller

POSITION SUMMARY: Based at its corporate campus in in Media, PA, Elwyn's Controller is responsible for monitoring general accounting practices, developing strong internal controls, completing tax filings, and building a strong financial team.

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage day-to-day consolidated accounting operations, including providing oversight and direction to accounts payable departments
  • Assess current accounting operational practices and develop and implement identified process changes, and maintain a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of Elwyn's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Guide decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing financial policies and procedures
  • Monitor and analyze the financial performance of the company; ensure completeness and accuracy of financial reporting and results in compliance with GAAP standards
  • Act as a liaison between finance and corporate core shared services, including but not limited to Development, Human Resources, and Information Technology, and review monthly budget to actual results
  • Monitor emerging technology to determine ways to automate the accounting process without sacrificing ongoing vigilance, accuracy, and accountability
  • Implement and monitor the month and year-end financial close calendar; develop closing checklist
  • Support the company's strategic plans and participate as necessary
  • Coordinate preparation of reports required by regulatory agencies, including all tax filings
  • Coordinate annual audits, including financial statement and program audits; provide supporting schedules; assist auditors in their inquiries; and ensure compliance with all external deadlines
  • Develop a strong finance department through recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees
  • Drive results of direct reports by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, attending professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Executive Director of Finance

 DIRECT REPORTS: Senior accountants, account payable clerks

 CONTACTS: Elwyn staff, regulatory agencies, internal and external auditors, funding sources, vendors, contractors, consultants, actuaries, financial institution representatives

 EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required; Master's degree and/or Certified Public Accountant preferred
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience in accounting leadership role
  • Minimum ten (10) years' experience in financial accounting; additional experience in non-profit accounting preferred
  • Demonstrated exceptional leadership abilities
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and effectively managing multiple, often competing, priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Must possess excellent collaboration, customer interaction, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated intermediate/advanced experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Report-writer experience preferred

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
