Registered Nurse 2nd Shift

POSITION SUMMARY: Provides normalized, empathetic, therapeutic and preventative nursing care to clients in an assigned interdisciplinary setting with the scope of the Pennsylvania Professional Nursing Law and in accordance with Pennsylvania DPW Department of Health's standards, IOC, and Elwyn's policies and procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops a comprehensive nursing assessment on admission, when health needs indicate and at a minimum every three months, annually and upon discharge.
  • Presents data collected through observation, interview, physical assessment and other reports in a systematic way to all team members.
  • Sets priorities in accordance with professional judgment and presents to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Refers clients to physicians when assessment indicates further medical evaluation. Requests back-up from the Charge Nurse when indicated.
  • Monitors measurement of regular weights and blood pressure screenings.
  • Assists physicians as necessary.
  • Uses discretion during treatment to provide privacy as much as possible.
  • Prepares and administers medications as ordered by physicians in accordance with Elwyn's Medication Procedures. Receives verbal orders as necessary from physicians and transfers information as per policy.
  • Evaluates therapeutic effectiveness of medications with pertinent data and reports any observed side effects or relevant laboratory values to the Director of Nursing and physicians.
  • Reviews monthly Medication Administration Record (MAR), corrects as necessary.
  • Administers and documents immunizations as ordered following appropriate authorizations and consents.
  • Documents all relevant information according to Elwyn's Nursing Manual on MAR sheets, physician's orders and progress notes. Communicate with next shift of nursing staff.
  • Assesses clients with the self-administration of medication goals as indicated on the IHP. Assures compliance of team approved goals, including data collection and monthly documentation of progress.
  • Administers and documents appropriately treatments and their effects.
  • Instructs, supervises and documents any treatments in which the direct care staff may be involved.
  • Communicates effectively with all interdisciplinary team members both verbally and in writing about changes in health status, treatments, health issues, psychotropic medications and all crucial health issues
  • Develops a nursing care plan which is incorporated into the total care program including nursing goals, and directions for meeting health needs and activities of daily living. This plan is reviewed and revised every 90 days and will incorporate data gathered through a comprehensive nursing assessment and information available from other disciplines.
  • Cooperates with physicians, therapists and other health care staff and interdisciplinary team in planning and implementing the therapeutic program of care.
  • Contributes nursing knowledge to the development and maintenance of a safe and therapeutic living environment including the monitoring of infectious disease among residents and staff, inspecting the living unit for present and potential hazards and makes appropriate contacts concerning infection control to the Director of Health Care Services.
  • Participates in team meetings.
  • Coordinates appointments with the physicians and other health care providers.
  • Assumes campus responsibilities as assigned and covers other units as necessary.
  • Assists with emergencies utilizing skills obtained via CPR certification and First Aid Training.
  • Maintains medical equipment in units, assesses functioning of emergency equipment regularly after use and reports any malfunctioning equipment immediately.
  • Assists in training new employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the needs of the clients are met.
  • Participates in continuing education. Obtains required 24-hour Inservice training per year. Attends nurses' meetings and inservices as requested.
  • Demonstrates a consistent level of performance, the ability to adapt to changes in workload and to performs all duties in an independent manner with little or no need for direct supervision.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Licensed to practice as RN in Pennsylvania, BSN or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of one year of clinical experience in an acute care hospital;
  • current CPR certification;
  • completion of physical assessment course,
  • history of good interpersonal skills,
  • experience in developmentally disabled population.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
